Our division is involved in multiple studies and quality improvement projects, some of which are listed below. In addition, Hackensack Meridian Health has the Center for Discovery and Innovation as a member of the network. The CDI is a translational research center that works with physicians at Hackensack to advance translational projects.
Clinical Trials
- ASPIRE clinical trial on a new medication for chronic cough
- NIGHTINGALE study - genomic markers for risk stratification of pulmonary nodules
- Phase 2 and 3 studies on therapies for RSV, pulmonary fibrosis and ARDS
Research Studies
- Assessment of RV function with POCUS in acute pulmonary embolism
- Bronchoscopic performance of different bronchoscopes in the ICU
- Use of inhaled TXA before bronchoscopy to reduce bleeding with biopsy
- Use of TPA/Dornase in complicated pleural effusions and risk of bleeding while on anti-platelet medications or anticoagulation.

Regional and National Meetings
- Faculty and fellows are active in both the local ATS chapter of NJ, the local SCCM chapter in NJ and present at national meetings at Chest and ATS.
- The faculty at Hackensack have helped create an Ultrasound course for other physicians in the network and the region and helped to create an ECMO symposium for the region.
