All incoming fellows start the year in a one week “Boot Camp” to review intubation techniques, leadership skills and basics on bronchoscopies, ventilators, and procedures. 1st year Fellows are also sent to a NYC Ultrasound Course for training.
Our fellows have numerous weekly and monthly conferences to augment their education:

- Tumor Board
- Department of Medicine Grand Rounds
Monthly
- ILD multi-disciplinary conference
- Critical Care Quality meeting

Stimulation
All fellows participate in numerous simulation sessions with our faculty under the leadership of Dr. Vishad Sheth. Sessions include code training, procedures including cricothyroidotomy and difficult airways, and combined sessions with our colleagues in the ER on Mass Casualty.
Ultrasound
In addition to the training that our first year fellows receive during the NYC Ultrasound Course, our fellows receive extensive training on POCUS, basic echocardiography as well as advanced echocardiography including TEE training with our faculty.
Our curriculum and training are led by Dr. Ronak Shah and Dr. Taylor Douglas and include monthly sessions to review studies as well as a didactic schedule. Topics included this year are: Qualitative LV systolic function, US in patients on mechanical support such as ECMO, Impella and IABP and VEXUS.
Fellows who are interested have the opportunity to take the CCEeXAM for advanced critical care echocardiography.
Mechanical Ventilation Series
Our fellows are fortunate to have a series of lectures on Mechanical Ventilation by Dr. Deep Patadia. These lectures begin during boot camp and extend throughout our fellows’ training. Dr. Patadia has been recognized nationally for his ventilator lectures and some of these lectures can be seen on YouTube (@deepcrit).
