Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Breathe easier. Move stronger. Live better.

When you’re living with a chronic lung condition, everyday tasks such as walking to the mailbox or climbing stairs can feel exhausting. The pulmonary rehabilitation program at Hackensack Meridian Health is here to help you take back control of your life – one breath, one step and one day at a time.

Pulmonary rehab is more than just an exercise program. It’s a comprehensive, medically-supervised plan that includes exercise, education and emotional support tailored to your specific needs and goals. Whether you’re managing COPD, recovering from lung surgery or living with another chronic lung disease, we’re here to help you improve your strength, stamina and overall well-being.

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a personalized treatment program for people with chronic respiratory disease.
It’s designed to:

  • Ease symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety and depression
  • Improve your ability to exercise
  • Increase independence and quality of life
  • Reduce breathlessness

Chronic lung diseases often cause more than just breathing issues – they can impact your muscle strength, activity levels and mental health. Our expert team works with you to build endurance, boost confidence and learn how to better manage your condition every day.

Your personalized care plan may include:

  • Supervised exercise training: You’ll work one-on-one or in small groups to build strength, endurance and lung capacity in a safe, closely monitored setting.
  • Education and support: We’ll teach you how to manage your lung condition, conserve energy, improve your breathing, and recognize early signs of complications.
  • Emotional and mental health support: Chronic illness can be emotionally overwhelming. We’re here to help you manage the emotional toll with counseling and support groups.
  • Goal-oriented, whole-person care: Every session is built around your goals, your lifestyle, and your condition – so you can keep doing the things that matter most to you.

We care for patients with a wide range of lung conditions, including:

  • Asthma
  • Bronchiectasis
