Our goal is always to support your child’s well-being while helping you understand what’s happening and feel confident in the care plan ahead.

Hackensack Meridian Children’s Health offers expert, compassionate care for children and teens across New Jersey. We’re proud to be ranked number one in the state for Pediatric Diabetes & Endocrinology by U.S. News & World Report ‘25-’26.

Coordinated Care for Complex Kidney and Urinary Conditions

Pediatric Nephrology and Urology Clinic

Available at both Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital and K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital, this clinic brings together pediatric urologists and nephrologists to evaluate and treat children, from birth through young adulthood, who have complex kidney conditions. The team uses advanced tools and techniques such as extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, flexible ureteroscopy, and laser lithotripsy to treat kidney stones and other urologic concerns.

Pediatric Stone Clinic

While kidney stones are more commonly associated with adults, they’re increasingly seen in children. Our Pediatric Stone Clinic offers complete evaluations and imaging in one convenient location. This helps guide the best treatment for your child and gives families the tools to help prevent stones from forming again.

A Team Approach for Customized Treatment

Our pediatric urology surgeons take a collaborative, whole-child approach to treatment. That often means working closely with pediatric specialists in nephrology, endocrinology, and general surgery to find the most effective care plan for your child.

When surgery is needed, we aim to use the least invasive methods available. Our surgeons are highly trained in minimally invasive and robot-assisted techniques designed for small bodies, helping to minimize recovery time and discomfort. In some cases, surgery may not be needed at all, and if that’s the case, we’ll discuss the best non-surgical alternatives with you.

We also understand that surgery and hospital visits can feel scary. That’s why our child life specialists help your child prepare emotionally and mentally, offering:

  • Age-appropriate explanations about procedures
  • Medical play to reduce fear and build understanding
  • Playrooms and creative therapies including art, music, and pet visits
  • Support for families throughout the entire process

Navigating Your Child’s Urology Care

Pediatric urology surgeries use specialized tools and techniques that are tailored to the size and needs of children. Our team focuses on minimally invasive or robotic-assisted approaches whenever possible to support a faster and easier recovery.
If your child is experiencing issues like frequent urinary tract infections, bedwetting beyond early childhood, blood in the urine, or pain during urination, it may be time to consult a pediatric urologist. A pediatrician can guide you on whether a referral is appropriate.
Not always. Some urology conditions can be treated or managed without surgery. If surgery is needed, our team will guide you through the decision-making process and explain all options clearly.
Our team works closely with maternal-fetal medicine specialists to monitor the baby’s development. After birth, your child will receive an individualized treatment plan based on the latest pediatric urology guidelines.
Our child life specialists are here to support you and your child. They use play, visuals, and calming techniques to reduce fear and help kids feel more in control during medical experiences.
