What Makes Our Approach Different
Where Compassion Meets Cutting-Edge Treatment
We understand how overwhelming it is to face a cancer diagnosis in your child. That’s why our entire approach blends breakthrough treatments with compassionate, whole-family support.
As a proud member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) and the Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC), our team has access to the most current research and treatment protocols, many of which are offered through our 100+ clinical trials, including some developed right here in New Jersey.
We are also the only certified site in New Jersey to offer CAR T-cell therapy, and we’re exploring therapies that may reduce or eliminate the need for traditional chemotherapy or radiation. Our specialists stay up to date on the latest FDA-approved treatments so your child can benefit from the most advanced options available.
A Team That Cares for the Whole Child
Getting excellent cancer care shouldn’t mean giving up comfort or convenience. We work closely with your child’s pediatrician and other specialists to deliver care that’s coordinated, seamless, and grounded in what matters to your family.
Care doesn’t end when treatment does. Our support continues with survivor programs, psychosocial services, and long-term health monitoring to guide your child through every step from diagnosis through survivorship and into adulthood.

Why Families Choose Hackensack Meridian Children's Health for Pediatric Cancer Care
We lead the way in developing innovative therapies, including the largest pediatric bone marrow and stem cell transplant program in New Jersey. Our partnership in national and global research consortiums means access to more than 60 active clinical trials for pediatric cancer and blood disorders.
We’re the only pediatric cancer program in the state that offers fertility preservation across the entire pediatric and young adult age spectrum. Our team, alongside a dedicated nurse navigator, provides early guidance and coordinates referrals for fertility options before treatment begins.
After treatment, our support for your child continues through our dedicated survivorship program. Our team monitors for the late effects of therapy and provides care coordination for children and teens who are two or more years past their treatment. We provide this vital support for patients treated by our pediatric cancer, hematology, transplant , and cellular/gene therapy teams, and we also welcome any pediatric cancer or transplant survivor, no matter where they were originally treated.
Making an Impact through Tackle Kids Cancer
Only 4% of federal cancer research funding goes toward pediatric cancers. That’s why programs, treatments, and support services at our Children’s Hospitals often rely on generous donors. Tackle Kids Cancer, a philanthropic initiative of the Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation, helps us fund the research, clinical care, and support families count on.
Our Research and Clinical Trials
At Hackensack Meridian Health, you may have the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial of new and exciting approaches to stem cell transplant. Our research has a strong focus on reducing the complications of transplant and also lowering the risk of disease recurrence. We are the first in the world to combine checkpoint inhibitors (drugs that inhibit the proteins cancer cells use to evade detection by the immune system) after transplantation, at a time when the immune system has the best opportunity to eliminate any remaining cancer cells.
