If your child needs a same day procedure, we know how important it is for the experience to be safe, calm, and as smooth as possible. At Hackensack Meridian Children’s Health, our pediatric team is here to guide you every step of the way so you never feel like you're navigating it alone.

We offer same day pediatric services across several locations in New Jersey, all supported by board-certified pediatric specialists, anesthesiologists, and child life experts who work together to care for your child’s physical and emotional well-being.

What to Expect with Same Day Procedures

Your child’s care plan may include one or more of the following same day services:

• Bone marrow services
• Blood transfusions
• Clinical trials (including gene therapy)
• Endocrine testing
• Hematological tests requiring multiple blood samples
• Sedation for imaging (MRI, X-ray, CT scan)
• Minor procedures requiring conscious sedation, administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist
• Same day surgery

Many of these procedures require children to remain still for extended periods of time. When this happens, our team may recommend sedation to ensure the best experience and most accurate results.

How We Support Your Child’s Comfort and Safety

Each sedation plan is carefully developed by our board-certified pediatric intensivists. From start to finish, the same medical staff stays with your child to ensure continuity of care and comfort.

Sedation may be administered orally or through an IV, and your child will be monitored throughout the entire process. To ease any anxiety, we involve our child life specialists, who use age-appropriate techniques, such as toys to games to guided distractions, to help your child feel safe and supported.
