Residency Program Details

The Adult Neurology Residency at JFK aims to train clinically competent and compassionate neurologists. The program has 9 resident spots per year, and the program has multiple affiliated fellowships in Clinical Neurophysiology, Interventional Neurology, Neurocritical Care, Sleep Medicine and Vascular Neurology.

Residents take on extensive clinical responsibilities to prepare them for their post-residency careers, whether continuing on for more training in fellowship or immediately heading into independent practice.

Rotations are organized into two week half blocks totalling 13 four-week blocks in the academic year. The current curriculum breakdown falls below:

PGY-1 

The PGY-1 is a preliminary year spent with the JFK University Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency. The residents develop and gain a solid foundation in general medicine during this year.

PGY2-4

The subsequent three years are spent in neurology, providing residents with comprehensive exposure to clinical neurology in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Rotations include Inpatient Neurology, Stroke Neurology, Consult Neurology, Night Float, Neurocritical Care, Pediatric Neurology, Ambulatory Neurology, Neurophysiology, Research, Psychiatry, Elective.

Residents also partake in a weekly continuity clinic, allowing them to follow patients over an extended period of time. Continuity clinics are in the afternoon Monday through Friday from 1 - 5 p.m.

Conferences

The program has twice daily didactics with morning reports and subspecialty lectures. There are also monthly multidisciplinary case conferences in neurology, neurovascular and neurosurgery.

Residents partake in monthly case presentations, journal clubs, grand rounds, and M&M.
