Single Port Symposium at Hackensack University Medical Center Trains Nation’s Top Fellows and Chief Residents in Robotic Urological Surgery
Two-day scholarship-based symposium teaches complex techniques via live-streamed surgeries, hands-on labs and presentations followed by new year-long fellowship experience

A field leader in robotic urological surgery, Hackensack University Medical Center provides advanced training through its scholarship-based Single Port (SP) Symposium. In four years, more than 125 of the nation's top fellows and chief residents have participated in the unique annual educational experience. This year, the program will expand with a year-long fellowship course.
The symposium reflects a deep commitment to innovation, which is central to the mission of the Department of Urology at Hackensack University Medical Center. As home to two da Vinci SP surgical systems and the largest single-port robotic surgery experience in the United States, the department embraces a responsibility to share its expertise.
The intensive two-day symposium provides a dynamic curriculum, including live-streamed surgeries, hands-on lab sessions, expert-led didactic lectures on complex techniques and data-driven presentations. This immersive environment, along with dedicated networking events, fosters vital connections between faculty and the next generation of surgical innovators.
This year, to further the mission, the Hackensack University Medical Center Department of Urology, with support from an Intuitive educational grant, is partnering with the Society of Urologic Robotic Surgeons to launch an expanded, year-long fellowship course. This enhanced curriculum adds virtual didactics, advanced training models and, crucially, a second hands-on session with one-on-one mentoring to guide fellows through their initial cases.
This collaboration exemplifies a shared commitment to building a national community of practice, dedicated to accelerating the adoption of surgical best practices and collectively advancing the field of urologic robotic surgery.
