Hackensack University Medical Center and Jersey Shore University Medical Center have been named Recognized Leaders in Caring for People Living with Diabetes by The Leapfrog Group in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

This designation recognizes hospitals that meet the most rigorous standards for delivering safe, high-quality care to patients with diabetes. Among this elite group, Hackensack University Medical Center and Jersey Shore University Medical Center stand out as two of just 36 hospitals across 12 states in the U.S.

The award recognizes each hospital’s strong commitment to the safety and well-being of hospitalized people living with diabetes — estimated to make up 30 percent of all people who are admitted for inpatient care nationwide.

Additionally, Hackensack University Medical Center was recently recertified by the Joint Commission for Advanced Inpatient Diabetes Care, earning its eighth consecutive designation. A member of the endocrinology team is available 24/7 to provide medical management and coordinate care to address the unique needs of hospitalized patients with diabetes — especially those who have uncontrolled or previously undiagnosed diabetes.

“Both the Leapfrog and Joint Commission designations signify our commitment to quality and outstanding patient outcomes — as well as developing and implementing processes that enhance patient safety and lower the risks of complications,” said Colette M. Knight, M.D., chair of the Diabetes Institutes at Hackensack University Medical Center.
