Gastroenterology Fellowship at Jersey Shore University Medical Center

Program Overview

The mission of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship Program is to provide comprehensive training in clinical gastroenterology and hepatology as well as in-depth exposure to research and scholarly activity. The goal of this program is to teach the fellow clinical knowledge, endoscopic procedural skills, clinical judgment, professionalism, interpersonal skills, and ethical insight in the management of luminal GI and liver diseases. The curriculum is designed to provide broad clinical exposure in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Fellowship training will prepare the trainee to function not only as outstanding gastroenterologists but also as contributing members of the medical community. Graduates of our program will be board-eligible in gastroenterology and hepatology and will be fully prepared to independently practice gastroenterology and pursue further subspecialty GI training, such as transplant hepatology, advanced endoscopy, GI motility, and IDB.

Program Mission

Our program’s mission is to educate physicians to provide a compassionate scholarly approach to the care of patients, while expanding the larger knowledge and practice of the discipline of digestive disease and bringing that innovative understanding to the bedside in a humanistic manner. The fellowship creates an environment that fosters life-long learning and innovation in the service of patients today and tomorrow. Furthermore, the gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship is a part of a community of practice where fellows and faculty support each other, as they meet the challenge and embrace the privilege of providing such care.
