Frequently Asked Questions

Residency program applications will be accepted and reviewed only via ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). The ERAS website can be accessed at www.aamc.org/eras.

A candidate must be within three years of graduation from an accredited medical school, with no gaps in clinical practice, and U.S. clinical experience within the last six months. A passing score on USMLE/COMLEX Step 1 is required for the application and a passing score on both parts (CK and CS) on USMLE/COMLEX Step 2 is required prior to the end of the interview season.

Yes, the program will only sponsor J-1 visas.
Yes. Our Adult Neurology Residency program at HUMC is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Applications will be accepted until October 15. However candidates are encouraged to complete their applications by sooner. Interviews will be held between November and February.
While we do not have a specific score requirement we do expect an applicant to have passed each licensing examination on the first attempt. Examination scores are considered together with many other aspects of an individual’s application.
A minimum of three letters of recommendation from supervising faculty who know you well and can comment in depth on your clinical work, achievement, leadership, personal qualities, and project contributions is recommended. Four letters can be accepted.
Yes. U.S. clinical experience within the last six months is required. All clinical experiences are evaluated for their quality.
A Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE), formerly known as the Dean’s Letter, is required and should be provided by your medical school.
Due to the large volume of applications and our desire to holistically evaluate candidates who want to join our program, we do preferentially review those applicants who signal our program first.
Interviews are held from November through February.
Candidates who are selected for an interview will be notified by e-mail by the Adult Neurology Residency Program Coordinator.
The Department of Neurology does not currently sponsor observerships.
